A Brisbane Photography Update: Finding My Feet (and My Light) in a New City
When I moved from New York City to Brisbane, I knew I was starting over in a lot of ways. New streets, new light, new faces, and a creative community I hadn't met yet. What I didn't know was how quickly this city would start to feel like home, or how many doors would open for my photography along the way.
It has been a big season. In the last few months I've had my first gallery feature, launched my photography experiences on Airbnb, and photographed events for some incredible Brisbane organisations doing meaningful work. If you've been following along on Instagram, you've seen pieces of it. This post brings it all together.
Whether you're looking for a Brisbane photographer for portraits, events or your business, or you're simply curious about what I've been up to, here's what's new.
My First Gallery Feature: Ricoh GR Space Brisbane 30th Anniversary
I'm proud to share that one of my photograph was selected for an exhibition at Ricoh GR Space Brisbane, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Ricoh GR camera. My image will hang alongside the work of 30 other photographers chosen for the feature.
This one means a lot. It's my first gallery showing, and it happened in the city I've only recently started calling home. The Ricoh GR has a special place in street and documentary photography. It's small, quiet and always ready, which makes it perfect for catching real moments as they happen. That is the heart of how I like to work.
To see my photo printed and on a gallery wall will serve as a reminder of why I picked up a camera in the first place. Photography, for me, has always been about authentic human connection and helping people feel seen. Being recognised by Brisbane's photography community this early in my journey here is something I don't take lightly.
If you're in Brisbane, I'd love for you to stop by the exhibition and say hello.
Book Me on Airbnb: Photography Services in Brisbane
Another milestone: my photography offerings are now officially listed on Airbnb Services. Locals and visitors can book time with me directly, whether you want beautiful photos of your trip, a session for someone you love, or a chance to build your own skills behind the camera.
Here's what you can book:
Portrait photography. Relaxed, natural sessions for individuals, couples and families around Brisbane. I keep things easy and conversational so you feel like yourself in front of the camera.
Group and event photography. Birthdays, gatherings, small celebrations and team moments, captured in a cinematic, documentary style.
Film photography sessions. For anyone who loves the timeless look of analog. Every frame is intentional, and the results carry a texture digital can't quite match.
Photo walks. Explore Brisbane's streets, river and hidden corners with a camera in hand. A great way to see the city through a photographer's eyes, whether you're new in town or a lifelong local.
Photography lessons. One-on-one or small-group lessons for beginners and hobbyists. We'll cover composition, light and working with people, using whatever camera you have, including your phone.
As someone who is still discovering Brisbane myself, I love showing people the places that caught my eye. Airbnb makes it simple to check my calendar and book a time that works for you. Check out my listing here.
Event and Business Photography in Brisbane, With Purpose
I've also taken on new freelance work with Brisbane businesses and organisations. The projects I've loved most share one thing: they exist for a reason bigger than themselves.
YANA 2026: A Concert for Mental Health Awareness
I photographed YANA 2026, a non-profit concert raising awareness for mental health. Concert photography has been part of my work for years, but this event felt different. Between the performances, the crowd and the conversations, there was a real sense of community and care in the room.
My job was to capture the energy on stage and the quieter moments in between: people supporting each other and opening up about something that matters. Those are the images that help an organisation tell its story long after the night is over.
Rydges South Bank: Breast Cancer Awareness Month
I also worked with Rydges South Bank, who hosted an event to raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It was a great example of a business using its space and community to support an important cause. I captured the atmosphere, the guests and the details that brought the event to life, giving the team images they can use to share the story and keep the conversation going.
Looking for Purpose-Driven Brisbane Businesses
These projects confirmed what kind of work I want to do more of. I'm actively looking to partner with Brisbane businesses, non-profits and brands that work with purpose. That could mean community events, fundraisers, brand storytelling, team portraits or documenting the people behind your mission.
If your organisation is doing good work and needs an event photographer in Brisbane who cares about the story as much as the shot, I'd love to hear from you.
My Favourite Way to Connect: The Interview Series
If you asked me how I market my photography business, my answer probably isn't what you'd expect. My favourite way to get my work out there isn't ads or cold emails. It's my interview series.
Through the series, I meet creatives, entrepreneurs and business owners across Brisbane. I sit down with them, make their portraits and ask about their lives: what drives them, what they've overcome and what they hope to build. Every conversation teaches me something new about this city and the people shaping it.
It's also the most natural way I know to show what I do. People see how I make others feel comfortable on camera, and they get a sense of who I am before we ever work together. Many of the connections I've made in Brisbane started with one of these conversations.
If you're a creative, founder or small business owner in Brisbane with a story worth telling, reach out. I'd love to feature you.
What's Next for My Brisbane Photography Business
Every week here, I feel a little more established. Building a photography business in a new city takes patience. There are slow weeks and uncertain moments, and I won't pretend otherwise. But each new client, collaboration and conversation adds up, and I remain hopeful about where this is heading.
What keeps me going is the people. The friends I've made through the creative community, the clients who trusted me with their moments and the organisations letting me help tell their stories. Brisbane has been generous to me, and I want to give that back through my work.
