Life in Brisbane Lately

It’s been a big stretch. The kind where you look up and realize a few months flew by while you were just heads down doing the work you love. Figured it was time to slow down for a second and actually write about it.

Here’s what’s been going on.

First Engagement Shoot in Brisbane

I got to shoot my first engagement session here in Brisbane, and it could not have gone better. We found this beautiful empty field, just golden light and open space, and let the couple do their thing while I chased the light around them. Golden hour did most of the work honestly. There’s something about shooting people who are genuinely in love and not overthinking the camera. It reminded me why I got into this in the first place. More engagement work is exactly what I want more of.

It felt like such a treat to be able to capture this beautiful memory for the lovely couple, Jess & Jesse. Hoping to find more couples to make photos for, espeically with Birthdays, Events, Engagements and Weddings

Shooting My First Concert: ASAP XP in Sydney

In July I got the chance to shoot photo and media coverage for ASAP XP in Sydney, my first ever concert gig. Completely different animal from portraits. No control over the light, no control over the moment, just reacting as fast as you can and trusting your instincts. It was chaotic in the best way and I came home with a new appreciation for concert photographers who do this every week. Already thinking about how to get more of these on the calendar.

I learned so much about my first concert photography experience. I hope it won’t be the last!

First Hyrox Race

Also in July, I competed in my first Hyrox race. Not photography related at all, but it felt worth mentioning because creative energy and physical energy are more connected than people give credit for. Crossing that finish line was its own kind of golden hour moment. Already looking at what’s next.

So proud to compete in my first HYROX race with my partner by my side. She makes me feel like anything is possible. The training was tough but doing it together made it fun!

We had just two goals we wanted to achieve and we scored them all. Finish without getting hurt and finish under 2 hours!

“How Would You Like To Be Remembered?” Is Finally Clicking

This one means the most to me. My street portrait and interview series, where I stop people, take their photo, and ask them how they want to be remembered, has finally found real consistency. It’s the project that fits who I am more than anything else I shoot. Watching it grow after a lot of trial and error has been genuinely rewarding. Joining the Core Team at Among Creatives

Lastly, I’ve joined the core team at Among Creatives, a group built around bringing Brisbane’s creative community together across mediums. I already got to help lead a photowalk with them, and I’ve got events coming up that I’ll be hosting soon. Brisbane’s creative scene is small enough to actually build real community in, and I want to be part of stitching more of it together.

So glad I found Among Creatives back in April when I first moved to Brisbane. It’s been such a relief to consistently be surrounded by other creatives who understand the journey I’m on.
