A word about anxiety featuring Jesse Eisenberg

Wow I am so happy I came across this video of actor, writer, director: Jesse Eisenberg in Big Think, telling a story about how he uses his anxiety to fuel and motivate his ability to be a director, leader and collaborator.

What can we learn from listening to Jesse’s story? Well I think has a manager of people myself (at work), a director of large groups (on dance teams) and overall anxious person (yes, I am), his story comes off as very relatable.

I’ve learned as a leader that learning to seek out the strengthens of your team mates and bringing those out more is far more important than needing to be right. I think our anxiety we have for making sure things fall into place nicely steams more from the fact that we simply care - a lot. Maybe more than others.

So when it came time for me to manage people in my career, I asked myself, how would I like to be treated in a collaborative team setting? I’d want empathy, patience and to be given the green light on simply letting me be myself.

If you are an anxious person, a manager of people or want to be one day, I highly encourage watching this very short 9 minute video from Big Think on YouTube.
