Finding My Frame: How Brisbane’s Creative Community is Shaping My Vision
Moving to a new city is often a blur of Google Maps and unpacked boxes. But since landing in Brisbane, my transition hasn’t been defined by landmarks, but by the people I’ve met behind the lens. As a photographer, I’ve found that the best way to truly see a city is through the eyes of the locals who shoot it every day.
Connecting with the Brisbane Photography Scene
Connecting with fellow Brisbane photographers has been a game-changer. There is a unique, ego-free energy in the creative community here. Whether it’s grabbing a coffee in Fortitude Valley or scouting the industrial corners of Newstead, these conversations have given me a "backstage pass" to the city.
I’m learning that Brisbane isn't just about the iconic Story Bridge view. It’s about the way the "golden hour" hits the heritage brickwork in Teneriffe, the hidden tropical pockets in the City Botanic Gardens, and the gritty, neon-soaked alleys that come alive after dark. Learning these best places to shoot in Brisbane isn't just about aesthetics; it’s about building a toolkit. When I eventually start booking local clients, I won’t just be showing up to a location—I’ll be showing up with a deep understanding of how the light moves through this city.
The Shift to Film: Embracing the Slow Burn
Perhaps the biggest shift in my work since moving here has been my foray into film photography. In a world of instant digital gratification, Brisbane has inspired me to slow down.
There is something incredibly grounding about having only 36 frames. It forces a level of intentionality that digital sometimes lacks. I’m currently loving the "slow process"—the manual winding, the tactile click of the shutter, and the week-long anticipation of waiting for scans. This journey with film is teaching me to trust my gut and wait for the right moment, rather than the loudest one.
Looking Ahead: Couples, Portraits, and Events
While I’m currently in this beautiful season of exploration and learning, my eyes are firmly on the horizon. I can’t wait to start officially booking couples photography, portraits, and event work here in Meanjin/Brisbane.
I’m preparing to bring a very specific energy to my future clients:
A Slower, Intentional Process: Taking the lessons from film to ensure every shot has a purpose.
A Documentarian’s Eye: My passion lies in those unposed, candid moments that tell the real story of a wedding or a brand.
Confidence & Connection: I love people. My goal is to use my personality to make you feel entirely at ease, turning a "photoshoot" into a genuine hang-out.
Brisbane is a city with a soul, and I’m enjoying every second of uncovering it. Whether you’re a fellow creative or someone looking to have their story captured, I’d love to meet you.
